Space For Artists :: Shane D. Wilson

Making a space for artists to be creative is what makes every recording studio unique.

Some prefer minimalism, others ornate. Shane describes the making of his studio and what he wants musicians to feel when they walk in.

For context, Nashville only recently deemed home studios to be legal. This filming predates that transition.

My clients only have so much money, and if i want any of that money, I need to be able to provide the space in which they create or i'm not going to make any money. So… I'm sorry, I feel like I'm talking about money a lot, and I don't mean that, because that's not... the money's only important because I need to keep a roof over my head and the electricity turned on. It's not really about the money until it comes down to making a living, and that's part of the decision of having the space.

I was like, man, you know, if you go to the council and you want to dangle the carrot of taxation, I can only speak for myself and a couple of my friends who i know feel this way... dangle that carrot man! I'm not trying to get around a business license or anything like that. I'm just trying to affordably provide a space in which i can help my friends and clients make the best art that they can without going broke.
